Key Responsibilities of the Hostess:

  • Provides efficient, prompt and courteous service by receiving, seating and presenting guests with the menu
  • Having a thorough working knowledge of food and beverage menus, to be able to advise guests on selection and promote additional sales accordingly
  • Promoting additional sales by taking opportunities to upsell, in a manner that is professional and courteous
  • Addressing all regular guest by name with an appropriate title and maintain record of their Likes & Dislikes in the prescribed format
  • Know all tables by numbers and seats, in order to seat the guest on the designated table and assist restaurant team in service when requested by the Restaurant Supervisor
  • Checks with the Restaurant Manager concerning setups and last minute changes
  • Ensuring the restaurant reservations list is updated at all the times and tables are being reserved accordingly
  • Ensuring that the cover sheet(s) is maintained and filed daily
  • Ensuring that the feedback forms are all filled with all details
  • Check with guests for their satisfaction and get feedback from guests
  • Assists customers in locating specific items
  • Keeps hostess area neat and stocked with necessary supplies
  • Knowledge of merchandise location or seating charts
  • Skill in communications with public
  • Farewells guests at departure
  • Daily closing procedure is followed as per the set guidelines
  • Maintains high confidentiality in regards to guest privacy
  • Notifies the Restaurant Manager/supervisor regarding lost and found objects immediately
  • Reports all potential and real hazards appropriately
  • Supports a safe hotel by applying hotel regulations, and adhering to existing laws and regulations
  • Maintains the highest standards of personal hygiene, dress, uniform, appearance, body language and conduct
  • Stays updated with activities in the hotel by reviewing the communication log book for each shift and updates log book for next shift
  • Assists the Restaurant when requested
  • Accepts flexible work schedule necessary for uninterrupted service to hotel guests
  • Continuously seeks to endeavour professionalism in own job function
  • Maintain Anniversary/Birthday list for all the guest, informing the Restaurant Manager on the said date
  • Maintain a data base for all guests
  • Attends scheduled outlet briefing and regular training sessions
  • Helps out in other areas when needed by the management
  • Carries out any other duty that may be assigned by the management
  •  Supports the smooth running of the food & beverage department, where all aspects of the guest food & beverage service experience are delivered to the highest levels
  • Works as part of a team that maximizes guest satisfaction and comfort, delivering a positive and timely response to guest enquiries
  • Takes responsibility for the duties and tasks assigned to the role, ensuring that all work is carried out in a timely and professional manner
  • Delivers on departmental plans and objectives, where hotel initiatives & targets are achieved
  • Collaborates with their immediate report, ensuring that costs and inventory are controlled, that productivity and performance levels are attained
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships whilst promoting the company culture and values.
  • Ensures adherence and compliance to all legislation where due diligence requirements and best practice activities are planned, delivered and documented for internal and external audit, performing followup as required

Requirements of the Host/Cashier:

  • Experience in food & beverage service beneficial but not essential
  • Handson approach with a cando work style
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional guest service with a passion for the hospitality industry
  • Ability to find creative solutions taking ownership for duties and tasks assigned
  • Personal integrity, with the ability to work in an environment that demands excellence
  • Experience of working with IT systems on various platforms
  • Strong communication skills
