About Company

At the heart of Africa’s scientific innovation lies the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe), an institution dedicated to harnessing the power of insect science to improve food security, health, and the overall well-being of the continent’s populations.

A Beacon of Hope in One Health

icipe’s mission is a beacon of hope in the pursuit of sustainable development. It aims to alleviate poverty, ensure food security, and enhance community health by developing and extending management tools and strategies for both harmful and useful arthropods, all while preserving the natural resource base through rigorous research and capacity building.

Innovative Research for a Sustainable Future

The centre’s research is innovative and diverse, focusing on environmental health, agriculture, and biodiversity. One of its flagship programs, the Insects for Food, Feed and Other Uses (INSEFF), addresses critical issues associated with human, animal, plant, and environmental health within the context of One Health. INSEFF’s holistic approach to edible insects is pioneering, aiming to enhance food and feed security and economic well-being of smallholder producers through sustainable and environmentally friendly insect-based technologie.

Leadership and Recognition

Under the leadership of the new Director General, Dr. Abdou Tenkouano, icipe continues to solidify its global eminence, receiving increasing awards and recognitions, including three recent international honours accorded to two senior staff members of the Centre.
